Trigger-point injections are used to treat tight, painful muscle knots that don’t relax. These muscle knots are often caused by stress, injury, or overuse. These knots, called trigger points, can irritate surrounding nerves and lead to pain in other areas, reduced flexibility, and even sleep problems.
This quick in-office treatment involves injecting a small amount of anesthetic, and sometimes a steroid, directly into the trigger point to relieve pain and relax the muscle. It’s especially helpful for pain in the neck, back, arms, or legs, and conditions like tension headaches, TMJ, fibromyalgia, and myofascial pain syndrome.
